Boosted Post vs Custom Ad

**PREFACE - DO NOT DO A BOOSTED POST** :)

 

The reason we don't recommend using boosted posts is that they are limited in their features and followup. When you click the Boost Post button, Facebook creates a new Facebook ad campaign for the post you want to promote. That Facebook campaign is optimized for “Post Engagements”, which means reactions, comments, and shares. There are some MAJOR limitations with a boosted post:


- Limited to interests targeting, and not advanced demographic and behavioural options
- Broad fan reach plus “friends of fans” targeting (So not within your microniche)
- No placement or device targeting (Desktop vs. Mobile vs. Column)
- Limited duration of ad flights; there’s no ongoing option
- Can’t use custom audience or conversion tracking features
